Fairway Park Contribution

The final game of summer may have already been played at McCall’s ball fields but the city hopes it is about to hit a home run with the help of Midas Gold. The two have teamed up to improve the town’s two baseball fields, known by many as Fairway Park. On September 27, more than 30 community members came out to celebrate the project at an official groundbreaking ceremony and barbeque. At the event, McCall Mayor Jackie Aymon, the vice president of Midas Gold and other city officials used golden bats to hit a few last softballs at Fairway Park before work started. By next spring, Fairway Park will boast resurfaced fields, new restrooms, a concession stand and a drainage system to keep the fields from getting swampy at the start of the season. “Thanks to Midas Gold and the city, our community will finally have the park and all the amenities they deserve at Fairway Park,” said Mayor Aymon. “We have been dreaming about these improvements for at least a dozen years and without Midas Gold it would all still be a dream. We are so thankful for their partnership and we can’t wait to see what the park will look like when all the work is finished in the spring.” Midas Gold donated $50,000 to the City of McCall for this project – which will cover almost half of the planned improvements and additions. “A huge part of summer is playing baseball and softball,” said Anne Labelle, vice president of Midas Gold. “We know that in McCall the first games often don’t start until late June because of problems with fields being too wet to use earlier in the season. When we were approached to be a partner on the project we were excited to help. We really feel the work we are doing at the park will give the children in this community another month of summer in which to enjoy America’s favorite pastime.” Construction is already underway and is set to be complete by spring.
